Facebook Uniting To Remove Child Pornography

Protect the children Stop child pornography on Facebook

UPDATE: THE PAGE WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY ON IT WAS REMOVED LATE IN THE EVENING ON JUNE 25, 2011. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO REPORTED AND JOINED THE EVENT TO HELP REMOVE THE PAGE FROM FACEBOOK.

If you all recall back in December of 2010, Facebook came together and users changed their avatars to children’s cartoons in an effort to raise awareness about child abuse. I wrote about it and you can find it here.

Well Facebook has joined hands and raised voices in an attempt to provoke awareness again; only this time it’s about a page called Love Boys, this page has child pornography on it. This page was brought to my attention by a friend of mine on Facebook this morning. It sickens me that this page has been up for two weeks and has been reported over 700 times today alone. Please be aware the images are grotesque so do NOT click on them but, do REPORT the page.

A truly remarkable person has made an event in order to show Facebook that we are sick and tired of administrators not doing their job and removing this disgusting page and filing charges against the person who made the page. Please visit the event, Petition Against Child Pornography Sites on FB and click attend. Invite your friends and spread the word that WE DO NOT SUPPORT  this perversion on Facebook.

It’s bad enough that children are abused but, to see Facebook not remove this page is outrageous and we need to stand up for victims of such heinous acts. It’s time for us to do right by all children and come together as concerned citizens. Facebook should be removing this filth immediately upon reporting!!!

As for you Mark Zuckerberg… You have said you want Facebook to be allowed to have children younger than 13 years old to enjoy your site. Do you think that this is appropriate when you and your team cannot even remove child pornography from your site? This page has been reported more than 700 times since this morning, what exactly do you pay your team for? Does nobody monitor Facebook on weekends? And please do explain to me why this page has been up for 2 weeks and I am positive it’s been reported prior to today, yet there it sits in all its horrendousness. So tell us Mr. Zuckerberg, do you not think child pornography is something that should be taken seriously or is it no longer your problem now that you are a millionaire?

So Mr. Zuckerberg when will you remove the child pornography from your site?

Thank you to all of the people spreading the world and reporting Love Boys. Don’t give up our voices WILL be heard one way or another. Children are NOT sexual objects!!!! JOIN THE MOVEMENT AND STOP CHILD PORNOGRAPHY ON FACEBOOK NOW!!!

I am Attending, I reported the page..even though FB says it does not mean they will remove the content. I have Tweeted this and shared it on my FB Wall.

Shame on you FB…children are the treasures of our world and if the adults do not protect them who will. I know children under 13 that are on FB…it would be disgusting if they came across this site.

Thank you Ravenmyth. What is sad is how the page went from 150 likes this morning to over 2500 now. I don’t know why people think liking the page to comment is a good idea. Like they are going to say something that the pedophile will take to heart and delete the page. And if it’s someone doing this for likes well they are helping the person out by liking it. Facebook needs to start monitoring these pages and groups, yes it’s an invasion of privacy but, I would rather my privacy be invaded than to see child porn on a supposed family site. Both of my kids have FB accts and I monitor them like a hawk but, I shouldn’t have to do FB owner and admins job because the man doesn’t have enough staff to handle complaints. There are many kids on FB under 13 with fake accts. This is unacceptable….

I was surprised to see this news early Sunday morning everywhere in my page. Thanks Jenni for bringing this to my attention. For the last couple of weeks, news of FB related crimes have been reported in my country.

One case, although not directly from FB, had something to do about child pornography. The parents themselves sold the children to webcam sex slavery and foreigners get to pay $25…HORRENDOUS!!!

For a while, my art partner and I have been supporting groups against such and such… but he told me FB becomes more popular in doing so..much like publicity stunts… some I could let go and pass… but child pornography…NEVER!!!

How do we take concrete steps to fight against it if FB doesn’t make a move to remove it?… a 2500 likes on that page could also mean 2500 people who favor child pornography…

How do we protect the children?

Thank you Melissa for being on board with this. Any acts of abuse towards children are unthinkable and I will raise my voice over and over and over until all children are safe. The page has at last been removed so that is one victory of so many more we must face to keep children innocent.

Hey Jen. Thank you for this post. Facebook still has a long way to go. They profess terms and conditions that do not allow for ‘improper’ pages and groups but it’s hogwash if you ask me. Their enforcement skills are zero. I work on a Keep Me Safe campaign which I started last year, some pages and groups we “reported” last year have yet to be removed. Keep going, nice to hear a similar voice. http://peacefrompieces.blogspot.com/p/keep-me-safe.html
    Best wishes – Dora

Hi Pandora. Yes Facebook claims a lot of things and although it isn’t the only site that claims to protect our children it is the site that is fighting the law about what age should be allowed to be on it’s site. Mark Zuckerberg is attempting to get the government to lower the age of children who can legally join his site. He claimed that being on his “network” would be educational for the children. I can agree with part of that statement as FB has a plethora of games that kids can learn from. What I cannot agree with is his and his team’s lack of initiative and timely response to such vulgarity aimed at children. We as the user can only do so much and shouldn’t have to make it a daily routine to scan FB for such outlandish content. However, if anything has come from all of us joining together is we were heard eventually and hopefully these parents who allow their small children to be unsupervised and make fake pages will open their eyes and stop allowing their kids to be victims. Thank you Pandora for visiting and commenting.

Have they taken the site down? Because when I clicked on the link, I didn’t see it. I was abused as a child, and this issue is a very sensitive one for me. I have zero tolerance for child abusers and feel they should spend life in prison with no possibility for parole.

I came over from Ravenmyth to check out your blog. EXCELLENT!!

    • InJensMind says:

Hi Judie welcome and thank you for dropping by. Yes the page has been removed. It took all day and over 2800 reports to finally get rid of it. I am proud of being a part of something that grew so big and so many people were on board to help get rid of the heinous site. I feel exactly how you do and I won’t sit idly and do nothing like so many did in my own childhood. Our voice were heard and they will be heard every single time something like this happens. Thank you again and hope you have a wonderful evening.
